The Invited
By Jennifer McMahon

The Invited

From Goodreads

In a quest for a simpler life, Helen and Nate abandon the comforts of suburbia and their teaching jobs to take up residence on forty-four acres of rural land where they will begin the ultimate, aspirational do-it-yourself project: building the house of their dreams. When they discover that this charming property has a dark and violent past, Helen, a former history teacher, becomes consumed by the legend of Hattie Breckenridge, a woman who lived and died there a century ago. As Helen starts carefully sourcing decorative building materials for her home--wooden beams, mantles, historic bricks--she starts to unearth, and literally conjure, the tragic lives of Hattie's descendants, three generations of "Breckenridge women," each of whom died amidst suspicion, and who seem to still be seeking something precious and elusive in the present day.

My Review

Yes I did just give this book 5 stars. I loved it! I did find a few chapters to be a bit boring but over all this book was very good. The story was well put together I don’t believe Jennifer McMahon could of written it any better than what she did. This book had some very interesting twist to it. The only thing that I wish we could know more about is what happened at the end. I also love the creepy feeling I got as I was reading.

I say buy the book get if from the library just read it. You will not be disappointed.

Review: Storm Cursed

Storm Cursed
By Patricia Briggs

Storm Cursed (Mercy Thompson, #11)

From Goodreads

My name is Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman, and I am a car mechanic.

And a coyote shapeshifter.

And the mate of the Alpha of the Columbia Basin werewolf pack.

Even so, none of that would have gotten me into trouble if, a few months ago, I hadn't stood upon a bridge and taken responsibility for the safety of the citizens who lived in our territory. It seemed like the thing to do at the time. It should have only involved hunting down killer goblins, zombie goats, and an occasional troll. Instead, our home was viewed as neutral ground, a place where humans would feel safe to come and treat with the fae.

The reality is that nothing and no one is safe. As generals and politicians face off with the Gray Lords of the fae, a storm is coming and her name is Death.

But we are pack, and we have given our word.
We will die to keep it.

My Review

Patricia Briggs did it again with a great novel with Mercy.
Mercy seems to get herself in all kinds of trouble the last novel she was abducted by vampires. This novel brought the witches that practice black magic. Let’s not forget those poor zombie goats and all the other zombies that brought the fae and the pack of werewolves to fight side by side.

The Lost Causes

From Goodreads

Misfits. Outcasts. And the only ones who can find a killer.

They’re the last people you’d ask to help with anything, much less a murder investigation. The rich girl, the obsessive, the hypochondriac, the addict and the hot-tempered athlete—people think they’re beyond help. Lost causes. But where the world sees losers, the FBI sees its only hope.

With the help of a dangerous serum, the FBI erases the teens’ past problems and unlocks a psychic ability within each of them. In return, all they have to do is help find the killer who’s turned their small town upside down.

But as they close in on a suspect, they expose a conspiracy that puts them directly in harm’s way and makes them wonder who—if anyone—they can really trust.

If anything happens to them, will anyone even care?

My Review

I think this story is well written. I found the entry into the storyline very good. I fell in love with most of the characters they were very interesting. Mainly because they are all different and have been presented in a pleasant way.

Review: The Inn

The Inn
By James Patterson
The Inn

From Goodreads

The Inn at Gloucester stands alone on the rocky New England shoreline. Its seclusion suits former Boston police detective Bill Robinson, novice owner and innkeeper. As long as the dozen residents pay their rent, Robinson doesn’t ask any questions.

Yet all too soon Robinson discovers that leaving the city is no escape from dangers he left behind. A new crew of deadly criminals move into the small town, bringing drugs and violence to the front door of the inn.

Robinson feels the weight of responsibility on his shoulders. His sense of duty compels him to fight off the threat to his town. But he can’t do it alone. Before time runs out, the residents of the inn will face a choice.

Stand together? Or die alone.

My Review

I have not read a James Patterson book in some time as they all seem to be so predictable.  I really did enjoy this novel.  I loved  how he wrote about an Inn with so many misfits and what all these misfits can do when they are being chased after by a drug dealer.  I can see this novel being the start of a new series.

Review: Wait Until Twilight

Wait Until Twilight
by Sag Pak

6082049

FromGoodreads

A debut coming-of-age novel about a motherless teenage boy who discovers a terrifying secret in his small Georgia town, and finds that sometimes the most gruesome monsters are those inside ourselves.

What I need to do, needs to be done before it gets too dark . . .

Sixteen-year-old Samuel confronts his own inner monster when he discovers a set of deformed triplets whose mother believes they were immaculately conceived. Soon, the babies have taken hold of his waking and sleeping thoughts, and, unable to escape them, he decides to save them, but their shut-in mother and violent older brother want nothing to do with him.

Samuel must fight the trouble within him and the trouble he sees around him to determine who he will become in a year that forces him to grow from motherless boy to self-defined man. Set in a small Georgia town, this psychologically complex story of survival and self determination explores the dark, often contradictory worlds of young contemporary life, laying bare the ugly truths and secrets that haunt all of us.

But is Leah all she seems? Or does she deserve everything she gets?

Everyone has secrets. But some are deadly.

My Review

Kathryn Croft has done it again.  She has wrote a wonderful novel with many twist and turns to it.

After reading The Girl You Lost I knew I found another wonderful author that I had to go right out and  purchase The Girl With No Past.

I loved this book so much I read it within 24 hours, its  just one of those kind of books that you can not put down you just have to see what happens next.

Leah Mills lives a life that has hunted her for 14 years.  She has no friends, no boyfriend all she has a plain flat that she lives in with her meager belongings.  Lots of books a t.v. and a 2 seat sofa.  She has her job and the library and she volunteers at the senior center once a week reading to the elderly.

Leah has kept her life a secret.  She never speaks of her past to anyone.  Then, on the fourteenth anniversary of that day, she receives a card, than strange emails start coming bringing it all to the front.  Someone wants to make sure she does not forget what happened so long ago.  But who would be tormenting her, and why after all these years?

I guess if you want to know the answer your going to have to get this book and read it for yourself.
I'm telling you it is worth every bit of the money you will spend on buying the book.

Review: Mary Unleashed

Mary Unleashed Blood Mary #2
by Hillary Monhan
MARY: Unleashed (Bloody Mary, #2)

From Goodreads

Mary in the mirror.
Mary in the glass.
Mary in the water.

Mary lurks in the emptiness, in the darkness . . . in the reflection. That is, until Jess unleashes her into the world. Now Mary Worth is out and her haunting is deadlier than ever.

No one is safe.

Shauna, Kitty, and Jess must band together to unearth the truth about Mary's death to put her soul to rest for good. Their search leads them back to where it all began-to Solomon's Folly, a place as dangerous as the ghost who died there a century and a half ago. Quick sand, hidden traps and a phantom fog are the least of their worries. To stop Mary, they need to follow a dark string of clues and piece together a gruesome mystery that spans generations.

But time is running out.

As chilling facts come to light, Mary inches ever closer to her prey. Can Jess, Shauna, and Kitty break Mary's curse before it's too late? Or will history repeat itself until there is no one left to call her name . . . ?

My Review

Mary: Unleashed was just as creepy as Mary the Summoning.

No one is safe from Mary, once she gets a taste of your blood you become hers.  She will show up in any shiny surface even water.

As Shauna, Kitty and Jess try to figure out how to get rid of Mary for good others suffer in Mary's wake.  Cody she was a victim of Mary's for 20 years.  Dell who just happens to be Jess's aunt and she has also suffered from Mary.

Shauna and Kitty learn a lot about Mary.  One of the things they learn is why Jess was so obsessed with Unleashing Mary in the first place.

I love the Shauna character the most out of the two books.  She is head strong and determined to get rid of Mary for good.  The girls even go to Mary's hometown where all hell breaks loose.  Shauna and Kitty along with Aunt Dell and Jess figure out how to get rid of her for good.  They also find one letter left in the chaos that explains what happened to Mary when she was a teenager and how she became Bloody Mary.

Review: Mary the Summoning #1

Mary The Summoning #1
by Hillary Monahan

17661402

From Goodreads

There is a right way and a wrong way to summon her.

Jess had done the research. Success requires precision: a dark room, a mirror, a candle, salt, and four teenage girls. Each of them--Jess, Shauna, Kitty, and Anna--must link hands, follow the rules . . . and never let go.

A thrilling fear spins around the room the first time Jess calls her name: "Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary. BLOODY MARY." A ripple of terror follows when a shadowy silhouette emerges through the fog, a specter trapped behind the mirror.

Once is not enough, though--at least not for Jess. Mary is called again. And again. But when their summoning circle is broken, Bloody Mary slips through the glass with a taste for revenge on her lips. As the girls struggle to escape Mary's wrath, loyalties are questioned, friendships are torn apart, and lives are forever altered.

A haunting trail of clues leads Shauna on a desperate search to uncover the legacy of Mary Worth. What she finds will change everything, but will it be enough to stop Mary--and Jess--before it's too late?

My Review

Mary The Summoning book 1 of Bloody Mary was a creepy read.  I would not use the word scary just creepy.

Can you imagine having a ghost that is over two centuries old trying to kill you.  Well that is what Shauna finds after her and three of her friends find when they stand in front of a mirror and summons Bloody Mary.  Of course you have to do it the right way, in the dark with only a candle, four girls linking hands and saying Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary.  The fist time they only get a a shadow of Bloody Mary.  So the girls try again and what that get the second time around Bloody Mary makes an appearance and she grabs a hold of Shauna.  Bloody Mary gets a taste of Shauna's blood now she is being hunted by her.  Now the four girls need to figure out how to put Bloody Mary away again.

Review: Stars Above

Stars Above by Marissa Meyer

25689074

From Goodreads

The universe of the Lunar Chronicles holds stories—and secrets—that are wondrous, vicious, and romantic. How did Cinder first arrive in New Beijing? How did the brooding soldier Wolf transform from young man to killer? When did Princess Winter and the palace guard Jacin realize their destinies?

With nine stories—five of which have never before been published—and an exclusive never-before-seen excerpt from Marissa Meyer’s upcoming novel, Heartless, about the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, Stars Above is essential for fans of the bestselling and beloved Lunar Chronicles.

--
The Little Android: A retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid,” set in the world of The Lunar Chronicles.
Glitches: In this prequel to Cinder, we see the results of the plague play out, and the emotional toll it takes on Cinder. Something that may, or may not, be a glitch….
The Queen’s Army: In this prequel to Scarlet, we’re introduced to the army Queen Levana is building, and one soldier in particular who will do anything to keep from becoming the monster they want him to be.
Carswell’s Guide to Being Lucky: Thirteen-year-old Carswell Thorne has big plans involving a Rampion spaceship and a no-return trip out of Los Angeles.
The Keeper: A prequel to the Lunar Chronicles, showing a young Scarlet and how Princess Selene came into the care of Michelle Benoit.
After Sunshine Passes By: In this prequel to Cress, we see how a nine-year-old Cress ended up alone on a satellite, spying on Earth for Luna.
The Princess and the Guard: In this prequel to Winter, we see a game called The Princess
The Mechanic: In this prequel to Cinder, we see Kai and Cinder’s first meeting from Kai’s perspective.
Something Old, Something New: In this epilogue to Winter, friends gather for the wedding of the century...

My Review

Marissa Meyer sure wrote the best series that there was.

This was such a wonderful conclusion to the Lunar Chronicles.  I still hate to see it end.  This book answers any questions that might have been unanswered in any of the books.  The short stories in this book was a way to let us know what happens between all the characters after Winter.  I'm going to miss reading about them all.

Review: Dead Heat

Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs

22586294

From Goodreads

The Alpha and Omega novels transport readers into the realm of the werewolf, where Charles Cornick and Anna Latham embody opposite sides of the shifter personality. Now, a pleasure trip drops the couple into the middle of some bad supernatural business…

For once, mated werewolves Charles and Anna are not traveling because of Charles’s role as his father’s enforcer. This time, their trip to Arizona is purely personal, as Charles plans to buy Anna a horse for her birthday. Or at least it starts out that way...

Charles and Anna soon discover that a dangerous Fae being is on the loose, replacing human children with simulacrums. The Fae’s cold war with humanity is about to heat up—and Charles and Anna are in the cross fire.

My Review

Charles and Anna take a trip to see Charles old friend Joseph and to purchase Anna a new horse.  What they did find is Joseph is dying, the Fae have come out of hiding and Charles has to make a choice to turn a witch into a werewolf.

The Fae have been hiding for awhile so why all of sudden do they come back.  They are here and they are replacing human children with simulacrums.

Anna has also put pressure on Charles of having a child of their own.  But Anna being a shifter herself and changing every full moon she can not have a baby of her own.  So she wants to find a someone to carry the baby for her.

This book is full of action.  The same lovable characters that we find in the Alpha Omega series.
