One More DayOne More Day by Kelly Simmons

One More Day by Kelly Simmons
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received this books as an ARC from the Publisher Sourcebooks Landmark for an Honest Review.
Expected publication: February 2016

In the beginning of the book we find out that Carrie's son went missing. No one seen what happened to little Ben. Not even Carrie. She was rummaging through her purse for a quarter for the parking meter when Ben went missing. Than out of now where Ben shows back up home. Carrie found him in his crib a year after he was missing. Than again that night Ben just disappears. This book was a very good mystery/thriller with some paranormal thrown into it. I thought I knew what direction the author was going to take us on but I was wrong. Very good novel.

Feverborn
Expected publication: January 19th 2016
In Karen Marie Moning’s latest installment of the epic #1 New York Times bestselling Fever series, the stakes have never been higher and the chemistry has never been hotter. Hurtling us into a realm of labyrinthine intrigue and consummate seduction, FEVERBORN is a riveting tale of ancient evil, lust, betrayal, forgiveness and the redemptive power of love.

When the immortal race of the Fae destroyed the ancient wall dividing the worlds of Man and Faery, the very fabric of the universe was damaged and now Earth is vanishing bit by bit. Only the long-lost Song of Making—a haunting, dangerous melody that is the source of all life itself—can save the planet.

But those who seek the mythic Song—Mac, Barrons, Ryodan and Jada—must contend with old wounds and new enemies, passions that burn hot and hunger for vengeance that runs deep. The challenges are many: The Keltar at war with nine immortals who’ve secretly ruled Dublin for eons, Mac and Jada hunted by the masses, the Seelie queen nowhere to be found, and the most powerful Unseelie prince in all creation determined to rule both Fae and Man. Now the task of solving the ancient riddle of the Song of Making falls to a band of deadly warriors divided among—and within—themselves.

Once a normal city possessing a touch of ancient magic, Dublin is now a treacherously magical city with only a touch of normal. And in those war-torn streets, Mac will come face to face with her most savage enemy yet: herself.

Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living

My Review

I gave this book a 4 Star Rating

I liked the premise of the book. I enjoyed the action. I like the characters Liam and Ruby the most. I found that it was very long read and I think the action could of started sooner.  As we are told in the synopsis is that, when Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police.  The police don't show up at her house to take her away.  Its people they are termed PSF's take her to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that’s killed most of America’s children, but she and the others have emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they cannot control.

This is one of the problems that I find that brings the book down a star.  We are not told what these problems are.  Ruby has struggle to keep  her hidden power from the authorities.  The at the age of 16 she manages to escape the hold the goverment that she meets, Liam, Chubs and Zu.  Shortley after meeting them she learns what her powers are and how to use them for good and evil.

Ok, so needless to say if  you want to know more your just going to have get the book and read it.  I will be reading the next book in the series as soon as I can.

MY REVIEW

I gave this book a 5 Star Rating

I received this book as an ARC from the Publisher:    Dreamscape Publishing for an honest review.
Expected publication: January 26th 2016

I was not even sure what to expect when I started reading this book.  I found it to be an excellent read.  I love the idea of  witches but the supernatural has also grabbed my attention.

Nichole she moves from a small town in Georgia where she thought she was normal.  She arrives to a new school in New England.  It starts of with Nichole getting her class schedule from the office to discover they have her in all honors classes.  She don't understand why the honors classes as she was in normal classes in her Georgia school.   When she enters her homeroom class she discovers that she is a witch and she is training.

One night her homeroom class meets at the teachers house to watch the Olympian Comet that only comes around every three thousand years..  The class has to break into groups of 5 people.  Nichole's group feels something strange and they are gifted with mysterious powers.  These mysterious powers comes with a great price to pay.

This is the first book in the series and I really can not wait for book two to come out.

Read the books you buy Reading Challenge 2016

Read the Books You Buy Reading Challenge 2016 Badge
http://bookdate.blogspot.com/2015/11/read-books-you-buy-reading-challenge.html

Bought the book, you really want to read it.... and then it gets surpassed by review books or library books or other TBR books.

So this is a Reading Challenge to Read the books you buy. You don't buy books? Well then this challenge isn't for you. Now at the start of 2016 you won't be sure of what you are going to buy or how many books you will buy.

So far in 2015 I as I write I've read 32% of the books I bought this year, and I thought until I did the tally I was doing well. Statistics do not lie!  I'd like to be in the higher end of 40-60% range at least. That's what I will be aiming for in 2016.

So - choose from one of the percentages below and go for it.  Make a commitment post and link up below. List the books you buy in the post as you spend throughout the year and then mark off as you read them.

If you don't have a blog you can do this on Goodreads with something like a 'bought 2016' shelf and you'll easily be able to see at the end of the year how you've gone. Leave a comment on the post with a link to the shelf to signal your participation, if using Goodreads.

20% or less      Money Sitting on the Shelf.

20 - 40%          Making Inroads.

40 - 60 %         Moderately Successful

60 - 80 %        Maximising  Returns

80 - 100%       Mission Accomplished

RULES.

  • Books have been bought in 2016 by you or you can decide to include from and including June 2015 buys. Anything previous to that definitely falls into the dusty TBR realm! There is a challenge somewhere in the book world for that!
  • Can be ebook, print book or audiobook
  • You can decide whether you include books bought in 2016 second hand or in book fairs etc.
  • You may adjust your level if needs be during the year.
  • Books for this challenge can also be included in other challenges.
  • Runs from 1st January to 31st of December 2016
I encourage you not to think this through too much, go on buying as you normally do - in a large or small way.

Authors write books, they deserve to be read and enjoyed and paid as well! So I know we love our review books, library books, 2nd hand books etc. But ... if you can - buy books as well.

There will be one mid year link up to share how you are going, in the beginning of July.

In December there will be the final link up to share where you reached. You may not reach your goal, but just link up to account for yourself!

The link ups just mean re linking your commitment post but updated.

In the July link there will be a $10 Amazon voucher giveaway prize for one reader among those who link up and at the end in December a $25 Amazon voucher or books to that amount from the Book Depository if it delivers to your country.  Even if you don't get to where you hoped you can still link up, so long as you bought a book during 2016 and joined the challenge!

The Winter People
by Jennifer McMahon

18007539

FROM GOODREADS

West Hall, Vermont, has always been a town of strange disappearances and old legends. The most mysterious is that of Sara Harrison Shea, who, in 1908, was found dead in the field behind her house just months after the tragic death of her daughter, Gertie. Now, in present day, nineteen-year-old Ruthie lives in Sara's farmhouse with her mother, Alice, and her younger sister, Fawn. Alice has always insisted that they live off the grid, a decision that suddenly proves perilous when Ruthie wakes up one morning to find that Alice has vanished without a trace. Searching for clues, she is startled to find a copy of Sara Harrison Shea's diary hidden beneath the floorboards of her mother's bedroom. As Ruthie gets sucked deeper into the mystery of Sara's fate, she discovers that she's not the only person who's desperately looking for someone that they've lost. But she may be the only one who can stop history from repeating itself.

MY REVIEW

I gave this book a 5 Star Rating

I devoured this book once I stared just could not put it down, very quick and satisfying read. Jennifer McMahon is a amazing author.

The book was cleverly put forth into a story of a series of journal entries. All showing how a parent can have such deep and unconditional love for their child and do the most do the unspeakable things for that love. The story line jumps back and forth through a time frame of 1908 to the present day. The book can be a little creepy at times to read. Almost like reading a Stephen King book.

Featuring found photos of unsettling history and real abandoned asylums and filled with chilling mystery and page-turning suspense, Madeleine Roux's teen debut, Asylum, is a horror story that treads the line between genius and insanity.

MY REVIEW

I gave this book a 3 Star Review

Why the 3 star rating. I thought it would be a scary creepy read but honestly it wasn't. I did like the black and white photo's that were in the book. Not sure if I will read the rest of the series though.

Dan is a 16 yr old that went to a summer school is a New Hampshire College Prep School. The school just happens to be an old Asylum. Dan and a couple of his fellow students discover that there is just more to the old Asylum than what they first saw. Seems like a few of the students had relatives that had something to do with the place years ago.

THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN
by Paul Hawkins

22557272

From Goodreads

A debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people’s lives.

Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?

Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.

My Review

I gave this book 5 Stars

First off let me say the only reason I picked up this book to read is that it kept getting reviews of it being like the book Gone Girl. I did read Gone Girl and I really think this book was much better.

The story is told by three woman. Rachel, Megan and Ann. It also revolves around three different men. This book was a thrilling ride, keep you on the edge of your seat as you try to figure out the clues that are thrown at you. This is the first Paula Hawkins book that I have read. I'm going to search out and see what other books she has written and see if they are as good as this one.

But Mercedes doesn’t bank on Angela’s boyfriend finding out about her services and wanting a turn- or on Zach, who likes her for who she is instead of what she can do in bed.

My Review

I received this book by Netgalley and  the Publisher St. Martins Press for a honest review.
Expected publication: January 5th 2016

I was really unsure if I was going to enjoy reading this book but I did find it a very good read.

Mercedes is a 17 yr old senior in high school who comes from a broken home.  She has this open door policy to her bedroom that she takes most males in that are virgins.  She coaches them in the act of sex and how they should treat their girlfriend on the night that they plan on having sex with them.  One of her strictest rules that are not to be broken, is that they never speak of the act that she performs with them.  When her best friends boyfriend throws himself at her and she declines he lets Mercedes know that if she tells her best friend on what he did he would make her pay for it.  He does make her pay, he turns the whole school against her by having a video of her performing some of the acts and he also has her journal that she recorded everything into.

From Goodreads

From V.C. Andrews, bestselling author of Flowers in the Attic (the first in a series of Lifetime movie events about the Dollanganger family), comes the tale of a young girl kept under the watchful eye of her adoptive parents, as if they fear who—or what—she’ll become…

And maybe they’re right to—even she can’t make sense of the strange things she sees and hears. She possesses knowledge that other teenagers don’t, that her parents and teachers—no adult—could possibly have. So when Sage finally makes a friend who understands her alarming gift, he becomes her confidant, a precarious link to the truth about who she really is. For Sage and the alluring new boy at school share many things in common. Perhaps, they’ll learn, far too many things.

My Review

I gave this book a 4 Star Rating

I received a copy of this book as an ARC from Netgalley and the publisher Pocket Books in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for giving me a chance to review this book way before the publication date.
This book is expected to be released on Janurary 26, 2016.

It has been years since I have read a V.C. Andrews book.  I have always loved the writing style the only problem that I do find with all her books is that the plots the same just different family's with their secretes.  Sages Eyes is no exception.

I really did enjoy reading about Sage and how her family and friends treated her but I also predicted what was going to happen in the book.  I really hate when that happens.

The writing style was great, the plot flowed really well, I just knew what the secrets were well before they were revealed.  I'm kinda hoping that this book will be part of a series as I would love to see how Sage's life has become since she is an adult and knows what she is.
