I started reading this book thinking that it was a novel, but it turns out to be a short story. The story line was good, flowed nicely. The time frame is the 1950's. Charlie is a 12yr old little tomboy who is being raised by her father Frank Frank is a grave robber, he has taught Charlie also to rob graves. When the rich widow dies, Charlie decides to sneak into the funeral home and steal the widow's jewelry without Frank knowing. Her plan is to take off and go find her mamma. She went to a town where she seen a picture that was taken of her mamma that she found and what she found out is her mamma had already moved on. Than on her way back home, Charlie see's the widow's ghost. The ghost of the widow was able to tell her who killed her. Turns out to be her son Jeffery. In the mean time Jeffery kidnaps Frank and his friend Jonny using them as ransom for the jewels. Charlie gets one up on Jeffery she takes the jewels to the widow's grave and returns them to her body. In the end Jeffery gets whats coming to him. |
